Abstract

This article examines drug–drug interactions as a significant and multifaceted issue in contemporary pharmacotherapy. It elucidates the nature of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic changes arising from the concomitant administration of medicinal agents and explores their implications for therapeutic efficacy and treatment safety. Particular attention is devoted to alterations in drug absorption, distribution, biotransformation, and elimination, as well as to the mechanisms through which pharmacological effects may be potentiated or attenuated. The clinical significance of synergistic and antagonistic interactions is considered, with emphasis on the potential adverse consequences associated with polypharmacy. The analysis demonstrates that effective and safe pharmacotherapy rests not merely upon the appropriate selection of medicinal products, but also upon a comprehensive assessment of their potential interactions. The findings underscore the importance of individualized therapeutic strategies, timely evaluation of drug–drug interactions, and consistent adherence to the principles of rational pharmacotherapy and medication safety.
