Abstract

This paper explores the challenges and intricacies involved in translating English proverbs into Uzbek, with a particular focus on how linguistic and cultural specificities influence the translation process. Proverbs, being the embodiment of cultural wisdom, reflect the worldview, values, and historical experiences of a given society. Therefore, the translation of proverbs from one language to another requires not only linguistic knowledge but also a deep understanding of both the source and target cultures. This study delves into the strategies employed by translators to address cultural and linguistic gaps and examines how English proverbs are adapted, transformed, or preserved in Uzbek translations, while highlighting the importance of cultural context in ensuring that the wisdom conveyed remains intact.
