Abstract

This article examines the theoretical foundations of phrase structure within modern linguistics, focusing specifically on the classification of coordinate, subordinate, and predicative phrases. Drawing on principles of traditional and generative grammar, the study highlights structural and semantic relations that characterize each phrase type. Special attention is given to their syntactic behavior, internal hierarchy, and functional roles within a sentence. The analysis aims to clarify how different phrase subtypes contribute to meaning, cohesion, and grammatical organization in English.
