Abstract

Reading is a fundamental component of second language acquisition, particularly in contexts where learners have limited exposure to the target language outside the classroom. In Uzbekistan, despite the growing emphasis on English as a global language, many students still encounter substantial challenges in developing effective reading skills. These challenges include limited vocabulary, poor comprehension strategies, lack of motivation, and minimal access to authentic reading materials. This paper investigates the specific difficulties faced by Uzbek EFL learners, drawing on both classroom observations and theoretical perspectives. The article also offers practical recommendations for educators, curriculum designers, and policymakers to support students in overcoming these obstacles and becoming more competent and confident readers in English.
