Abstract

Volleyball is a globally practiced team sport with strong educational and health value in school and community settings. This paper reviews volleyball’s historical development, outlines core technical elements (serve, reception, setting, attack, block, and defense), and synthesizes key tactical principles used in modern play. Using an evidence-informed literature and document review approach, we summarize major milestones in volleyball’s institutional growth (including Olympic inclusion), describe match structure and essential rules that shape performance demands, and present a practical framework linking technique to tactical organization. The review highlights that volleyball’s effectiveness as a physical education tool lies in its simultaneous development of physical fitness (speed, power, endurance, coordination) and social competencies (teamwork, communication, responsibility), while modern coaching increasingly emphasizes structured skill progression, decision-making training, and role-based tactical systems.
