Abstract

Latin continues to play a significant role in medical education as the foundation of international medical terminology and professional language formation. Despite the increasing dominance of English in global medical communication, the study of Latin remains essential for developing terminological competence among medical students. This article examines pedagogical approaches to teaching Latin in medical universities, focusing on its role in facilitating the understanding of anatomical and clinical terminology. The study is based on teaching experience at Tashkent State Medical University, where Latin instruction is integrated into the early stages of professional medical training. Particular attention is given to challenges related to student motivation, terminology overload, and the perception of Latin as a non-communicative discipline. The paper analyzes methodological strategies aimed at connecting Latin terminology with medical subjects, including anatomy-based learning, word-formation analysis, and interdisciplinary instruction. The findings demonstrate that context-oriented and professionally focused teaching approaches significantly improve terminology comprehension, retention, and students’ analytical understanding of medical vocabulary.
