Abstract

The main mechanism of neuronal death in neurodegenerative diseases is considered to be apoptosis. According to many researchers, the same mechanism is also involved in the death of retinal ganglion cells (GCS) in glaucoma. Approximately 70% of the fibers of the optic tract, forming retinogenicular pathways, end in the external geniculate body (CNT). neuron to a healthy one through synaptic contact. The same process is characteristic of the progression of glaucoma optic neuropathy.
